Meaning head of the shop, or Top of the Shelf. The blend has its origins way back in Morocco’s history. For a long time, the country was a crucial gateway by which goods flowed from Africa to Europe, and the Americas (chile pepper) which made it an especially important player in the spice trade. As a result, spices from all over the world found their way into Morocco and were assimilated into its food culture. It is said that Ras el Hanout was the best spices that the Spice merchant had to offer all mixed up – so there isn’t one exact recipe. Some Ras el Hanout recipes can contain up to 50 ingredients!!! You might also see Ras el Hanout sold as Tagine seasoning. Try it with: Lamb and Chicken – Grilled or Roasted Tagines, Vegetables, Soups and Stews!
