Functional Knife Skill Workshop with Jonah - $85 per person

In this class, students will learn how to use the most useful and yet most feared tool in your kitchen: your knives! Cover the basics of knife anatomy, what knife to use for what, and how to feel confident on the cutting board before jumping into a hands-on lesson. Learn cuts and techniques commonly found in recipes used at home and in your favorite restaurants, and end the class using your newly found skills to make an easy and delicious Pasta Primavera. Gather will provide knifes for you to use, however, if you would like to practice with your own knife please feel free to bring a Chef's Knife from home!

 On the menu:

  • Learn knife basics, safety tips, and best practices (don’t put them in the dishwasher!)
  • Come away knowing the right type of knife to use in almost any scenario
  • Cut! Chop, dice, mince and even get fancy with a chiffonade!
  • Practice cutting commonly used ingredients like onions, carrots, zucchini, garlic, leafy herbs and more
  • Relax and cook up a quick to prepare Pasta Primavera with your partner for a perfect weeknight dinner!
Your Instructor

Jonah Attebery grew up in Portland, Oregon, spending his formative years in the kitchen in with his mother and savoring his way through the region's culinary stalwarts in a city known for its inventive cuisine. Despite this promising start, he chose another, less delicious career before only recently returning to his love of cooking, attending the Culinary Arts program at Pikes Peak State College and working on the line at one of Colorado Springs’ best independent restaurants. He remains a practicing critical care physician, spending his free time pursuing additional training in nutrition science with the Culinary Institute of America and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and is working towards certification in Culinary Medicine through the University of Montana. He has also completed Introductory Sommelier training with the Court of Master Sommeliers and always appreciates a stellar pairing of food and wine. After taking several classes with Dave and Cortney, he is excited to join the team at Gather as the next chapter in his journey!
